The opening event took place at the Márka Soft Drink Manufacturer Ltd. factory, and the Ministry of Economic Development and the IFKA Nonprofit Ltd. jointly opened the event: Gergely Fábián, State Secretary for Industrial Policy and Technology at the Ministry of Economic Development, Richárd Szabados, CEO of IFKA, and Tibor Pécskövi, CEO of Márka Soft Drink Manufacturer Ltd., launched the program.
The official opening was followed by a factory tour on-site, as visitors embarked on the discovery of the factory in 4 shifts.
It seems that every year brings a new historic moment. In October 2017, we opened a new chapter in the Márka success story when production started in Felsőlajos. In October 2023, this story reached a round 500,000,000 bottles. We are proud and grateful to our colleagues and consumers for allowing us to celebrate the half-century anniversary of the Márka in this way!

Our company began its own soft drink production in October 2017 as part of the greenfield investment in Felsőlajos, Hungary. We have completed the third phase: the expansion of our warehouse, and by the end of 2021, another, now the third production line has been installed. This has implemented the "ultra-clean" technological process, meaning we are capable of bottling preservative-free beverages. In addition, this innovation has reached the peak of the current use of PET as packaging material in our green initiatives: packaging of one of Hungary's oldest and most popular soft drinks in 100% recycled PET bottles. Our machinery allows the production of 180 million soft drink bottles, and our storage area reaches 15,000 square meters, anticipating further growth in both domestic and export sales.
Zoltán comes from Magyarvíz Kft., owned by the Italian San Benedetto, where he spent nearly 14 years as the commercial and marketing, and later operational director. He successfully led a similar greenfield investment company and made the Mizse mineral water brand successful in the recent years.
Our company has grown with unique dynamism over the past years, evolving from a 4-person family business to a medium-sized company employing 140 people. Concurrently, it has become an indispensable player in the Hungarian soft drink manufacturing and distribution market. The Pécskövi brothers saw that a professionally qualified upper management joining the company could guarantee its continued dynamic development, and they found this in Zoltán Balog.

After previous expansions, the technological renewal of the own biological wastewater plant has now taken place, thereby increasing efficiency while reducing unit production costs
In addition, the temperature of the bottling plant has been optimized through the development of air conditioning, resulting not only in increased production efficiency but also in a higher level of sterility in the facility. This, in turn, allows our beverages to be preservative-free. Alongside these improvements, we are enhancing the possibility of remote work through the implementation of new IT tools.
The realization of this approximately 105 million forint investment was made possible with a 72 million forint European Union grant, which was officially presented by Mr. Mihály Varga, the Minister of Finance, during a formal event.

With the renewal of the extremely successful campaign launched two years ago. We focus on our innovative brand this time on the young target group and to communicate a uniquely wide range of products.
Creative concepction
The values that are important to the young generation: the freedom of conscious choice and the search for new ways, are reflected in the dynamic and spectacular scenes, while the music and lyrics further shade the take on the brand message.
In addition to television and radio, other elements of the campaign run on FB, Insta, YT surfaces and public areas from September.
We expanded our 4,000 square meter warehouse that was built at the beginning of the year, even further with a racking system and additional machinery to stock up on even more soft drinks from the spring time.

Our green aspirations
At Márka Soft Drinks, we are committed to minimize the burden on our environment. During our developments and production, we strive to protect our surrounding and external environment. For this purpose, our main focus is to use special PET raw materials for the packaging of our soft drinks, and to apply our own wastewater treatment plant during the bottling process.
R-PET
Most plastic packaging is recyclable and may be processed multiple times without losing the basic properties of the raw material. In line with the objectives of the circular economy, the recycling of PET bottles is also a priority, a practice which is becoming more widespread in the European Union.
Flasks and bottles containing recycled PET material, abbreviated as rPET, have been produced for years for food and household chemical products, among others. The rPET content can vary from 5 to 100% according to customer needs. Due to EU regulations, PET bottles must already contain 25% rPET by 2025. During the recycling process, the bottles received through the selective collection system are pre-sorted, arranged in bales and then sent to the processing companies. During processing, the bottles are re-sorted and cleaned of any contaminants, labels and caps during a very thorough washing process. Purification is followed by grinding and then an extrusion process produces rPET. The production of rPET for use in the food industry requires increased technological discipline and special attention. In general, colourless, blue and green rPET is re-introduced to the preform manufacturers.
Companies using rPET-containing preforms are still pioneers in the Hungarian market, but the commitment of these companies to environmental protection and sustainability is shown by the fact that they have been prioritizing the use of rPET for many years. Among the soft drink manufacturers, Márka Soft Drink stands out, which, taking a pioneering role, already uses 30% rPET in its bottles, so it already meets the regulations of 2025.
Own sewage treatment plant
Wastewater from the production technology of our soft drinks is treated biologically directly at our site, with the help of microorganisms. In aerobic (oxygen presence) purification processes, the controlled activity of microorganisms is used to the decomposition of organic matter. The resulting purified "wastewater" can already be released into an agricultural irrigation canal and discharged for further use.
The beginnings
Márka is one of the oldest Hungarian soft drinks, a real Hungarian patent: from Hungarian fruit ingredients, based on the recipes of inventors dr. Miklós Kállay and Péter Sárkány, the first product was made in 1973. The first grape flavoured Márka soft drink was bottled in the Southern Great Plain Cellar Farm, and in the following years the production of Márka soft drinks with different flavours was started in other cellar farms of the country. Over the last 43 years, a lot has clearly changed - the locations of bottling, the product range, not least consumer society and its customs. In 2007, the distribution of Márka Soft Drinks became an exclusive and family business as well, at which time Márka Üdítőgyártó Kft. started the “building” according to its own, new plans:
A series of very thoughtful and considered strategic steps are needed to minimize the risk factors inherent in a marked shift. In addition, of course, we considered long-term planning, step-by-step and mostly innovative construction to be important, and still do today, so that the existing, stable foundation is not damaged but preserved.

Few can say about themselves in the FMCG market, which is very rich in international players, that it is a 100% Hungarian, family business, owning a strong and distinctive brand with a tradition and a decades-long history, where tradition and innovation are both and equally important. It is important that we wish to pass on value, value system and value trend as well with each bottle filled by us to our Commercial Partners and Consumers.

What we want to convey with our products and communications is a message of personality and trust. With Márka, we personify the common, positive set more and more focused, step by step, that is common and present in every generation, in every type of person: the true, good friend. Our innovations
We recognized early on, that the most important and at the same time the most powerful trends, in other words, the expectations of consumers in this category are the following: quick and easy refreshment, variety, and slowly but surely health awareness, including now low calorie content as well. One of the driving forces behind the expansion of our portfolio has been, and still is, the fact that the range of our consumers has been very heterogeneous since the beginning, which we want to strengthen but also expand. Currently, in addition to the classic fruit-flavoured carbonated soft drinks, our fruit juices and ice teas are also becoming more and more successful. We believe, that with the increase in demand, continuous improvements and thus more and more diverse product categories will coincide. Beyond the health factor, our innovations always focus on the latest consumer needs, namely it should have a refreshing effect, it should have a positive experience for the consumer, and last but not least, it should fit into his lifestyle, within which even into his weight control program.
Last but not least, since we are talking about quite impulsive product ranges, the appearance, the quality of the packaging and the display of Márka’s values play an important role on the shelves as well. Thus, we place great emphasis on the fact, that our products convey our messages with their appearance, we also use the packaging itself 100% as a communication channel - with the renewable bottle shape, new package sizes and updated label designs, brand new slogan.
The summer of 2020 comes with 2 new 2-litre soft drinks
For the summer of 2020, we have already prepared with the well-proven concept, namely we have spiced up the traditional flavours with something new. We smuggled some exciting lime into the traditional ginger, and we added acerola and with another twist, the eternal favourite, orange, to the trendy mango. Hello summer, hello new products of Márka!
A hit of the summer - even in small package size!
The strength of the MÁRKA soft drink family is the wide range of products - in flavour, category and package size. We have good news for the lovers of our highly successful Pear-Sage flavoured soft drink, which was launched last spring, namely from now on, their favourite flavour is also available in half-litre package size, so it can be consumed anywhere, anytime for those who like non-ordinary flavour pairing.
Our 4,000-square-meter warehouse, built earlier this year, has been further expanded with a rack system and additional machinery to be able to stock even more soft drinks from spring.
We dreamed it, we took it - today it has been 2 years since the Márka factory started!
On 27 October 2017, we solemnly inaugurated our factory of Felsőlajos, with which we took over the production of the Márka Soft Drink Family. The realization of our dreams and goals has not stopped here yet, we have continuously built our 100% Hungarian family business in the last two years as well. In addition to our Consumers' Loyalty to the Márka brand, our work has been rewarded with additional accolades, which we are at least as proud of as our already realized capacity expansion, with the launch of another warehouse and another production line.

Our certification and inspection services cover an extremely wide range in terms of quality, environmental protection, work safety and social responsibility.
All 90 members of the Márka Team are proud to say that our mission and philosophy, as well as their implementation, are recognized at such a high, international level year after year. We are also truly honoured by this certificate because we were able to comply with this rigorous, international audit almost perfectly during the installation of our second production line.
The FMCG market is arguably very rich in international participants on both the merchant and supplier side. Only a few in this sector can say about themselves that they are 100% Hungarian-owned, as COOP and Márka Üdítőgyártó Kft.
The Márka's staff of more than 80 people is proud not only of its nearly half-century history, but also that it is a dominant and number one Hungarian producer of the soft drink market in a family business. Innovative products are first judged by a professional jury, and then, based on a representative survey of 2,000 people conducted by Inspira Research, consumers evaluate and thus select the most popular products available in Hungary. We are proud that consumers awarded the Product of the Year Award in 2019 for MÁRKA products in the category of carbonated soft drinks along attractiveness, innovation and satisfaction.

During the project, a modern, high-tech bottling line was put into operation. The intermittent operation of the equipment is ensured by low energy costs. During the mixing, the soft drink is prepared by the production line in the order determined on the basis of the recipe composed of raw materials and auxiliary materials, under software control. The proportions and quantities are adjusted by weighing at measuring points. The main raw material, very high-quality water, enters the system from its own well. During the bottling process, the mixed soft drinks are filled in glass bottles or “PET” bottles. The planned technology is suitable for the precision dosing of macro and microelements, so Márka Üdítőgyártó Kft. can enter the market of very high-quality sports drinks and functional beverages.
